Emmy and Peabody Award-winning filmmaker, literary scholar, journalist, cultural critic, and institution builder, Gates has created more than 20 documentary films and authored or co-authored more than 20 books, including, most recently, Stony the Road and The Black Church.

Her PBS and HBO production credits include The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross and Teddy: In His Own Words, respectively. She founded The MAKERS Conference to advance and promote women at work.
Deon Taylor

Executive Producer: Deon Taylor, is a film director and founder of Hidden Empire Film Group, which produces BeWoke.vote, a 2019 Webby Award nominated video podcast series. Taylor and Robert F. Smith teamed up as executive producer for Be Woke.Vote, which aims to engage and educate.
